All grown-ups were once children, but only few of them remember it - Antoine de Saint Exupéry
When I was trying to think what I must write for my next post, one of my friends suggested that I must write a short story. This reminded me to revisit my old collection of books and read the book “The Little Prince”. This time when I read the book, I could relate some of the excerpts from the book to my own life. I listed 5 things to share my thoughts on:
1. Judge yourself first before you judge others: When you judge yourself, you are seeing yourself from an external perspective which removes bias. When you are honest with yourself, you get to know yourself — which is more important.
2. Relationships are precious: From the interaction with the Fox, Prince learns that “one only understands the things that one tames”, not all interactions that you come across in your life are relationships. It takes time and effort to nurture them and make them worthwhile.
3. Take a moment and enjoy life: From the story of a lamplighter, he never gets rest in life. Instead of appreciating every moment in our life, we tend to get into the race of doing things at a particular time,at a particular place. How long has it been that you appreciated the surroundings around you, the sound of birds chirping in your backyard?
4. Care for the place where you live: From the book -” It is a question of discipline,’ the little prince said to me later on. ‘When you’ve finished your own toilet in the morning, then it is time to attend to the toilet of your planet, just so, with the greatest care.” How important it is to care for yourself, it’s the same that you care for your surroundings.
5. Live for yourself instead of others: In the whole journey of Prince, if he had stopped at any point to please others instead of living for himself, would it be possible for him to interact with so many people or learn the truth for himself? Answer yourself and be honest with yourself, only then you would be able to find yourself.
“The most beautiful things in the world, cannot be seen or touched, they are felt with the heart”
