Better to see something once than to hear about it a thousand times — Anonymous

Last year, I traveled to Peru and I’d had it in mind to travel to this beautiful country for a long time. I am grateful to God that it happened and there are so many aspects of Peru that just make it a unique and memorable experience for anyone visiting it. I have shared my experiences below and who knows you would want to visit it as well someday.

Magical Machu Picchu: Visiting Machu Picchu was something I was planning for long and I was really awestruck when I saw this Inca citadel right in between the mountains. The journey started by landing in Cuzco (approx 3,400 meters above sea level) and taking a train stopping at Aguas Calientes. The buses are available that can take you to the gate of Machu Picchu from the train station. You can also take the hiking trails to Machu Picchu. It was a perfect day with a clear sky and hot weather.

Culture and crafts: There is a wide variety of colors of fleece available that are very unique in Peru. We got a chance to visit many of the workshops and communities that made these fleece and sweaters. Don’t miss the chance to buy one if you don’t have it already. The people are very friendly and the hospitality shown by them is amazing.

Maras Salts

Beautiful Landscapes, Hiking paradise: There was a list of places we could visit: The sacred valley, Moray ruins, Maras salts, Lake Titicaca, The Plaza( Cuzco), Humantay Lake, Unfortunately, we couldn’t make it to two places: The rainbow mountain and Huacachina( sandboarding is a must here) due to time constraints. The capital city — Lima is a must-visit for preserving colonial architecture. Paragliding in Miraflores is a must and surfing as well. And if you are a hiker, Peru is a paradise for you — there are so many options available: Inca trail, Cotahuasi hike, and many more.

Cuisine and the unique drinks: Peruvian cuisine is well known across the globe for a variety of food available. Although, I couldn’t taste most of them, I would suggest this for all the foodies out there that it’s a great opportunity to try the dishes — empanadas, Ceviche, quinoa. For the drinks part, the most interesting for me is the Pisco Sour( Lime and egg whites), I really enjoyed the taste of it. Make sure you are hydrated all the time as its high altitude regions most of these places are in. I would say the list is still incomplete and there are many more places to visit in Peru!
